Patient safety and blood management are gaining awareness this week as a result of three important events. The Joint Commission, Institute for Healthcare Improvement and Strategic Healthcare Group are each taking their own steps to improve the quality of healthcare for patients. tjcThere is growing concern related to the overuse of various treatments, procedures, and tests in health care. To address this serious safety and quality problem, The Joint Commission is proposing a new National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) on the topic of overuse including blood products. Strategic Blood Management encourages you to review and provide feedback on the proposed patient standards.
