Abstract: New information is available for management of blood resources and blood conservation since publication of the STS Blood Conservation Guideline published in 2007. The goal of this presentation is to highlight new information and see how this
information integrates into a modern blood management program.
Objectives: At the conclusion of this lecture, the participant will be able to: 1. Outline new evidence regarding blood conservation during cardiac surgery 2. Describe the usefulness of a multi-disciplinary team approach to blood conservation 3. Make recommendations for blood conservation in high risk patients
Goal: The goal of this presentation is to describe new information regarding blood conservation for cardiac operations.
Teaching Strategy: The teaching strategy will be didactic in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, followed by a question and answer period.
